Are you fresh into the job market and looking for a change in careers? Something new and exciting that will certainly see lots of growth in the coming years? Look no further than the cannabis industry. Since cannabis became legal in many states, it has seen a serious increase in the number of jobs that it provides. From working at a farm to helping customers at a dispensary, cannabis offers a wide range of job options; with growth noticeable all around.
Already jobs for cannabis have surpassed computer programming jobs, and they haven’t even legalized cannabis everywhere, yet. In 2020 alone, there was an increase of 300,000 people working in the cannabis industry, which was essentially double the amount of cannabis employees in 2019. In the next few years it is predicted that jobs will likely double again, jumping to 600,000 people in the cannabis industry. While there is no foreseeable future wherein the US legalizes cannabis federally, if they do, jobs could be as high as 1.6 million.
As the legalization of marijuana charges forward, there will be more and more potential jobs all across the country. The latest focuses of cannabis growth have been in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut; which currently adds up to 100,000 jobs total for the industry. While it might seem like the cannabis industry is relatively new, Washington and Colorado were the first to start the process of recreational legalization in as early as 2012. Even though people had doubts about the legalization, the amount of jobs that it has created as an industry is worth so much more than whatever worries people had. There have been great developments in the industry, and if the job growth shows us anything, there are plenty more to be made.
Even Covid was unable to lower the success of the industry, as people maybe needed it even more to stay sane during the long stretches of staying inside and away from others. While cannabis still has a long journey toward federal legalization, it won’t be going anywhere for the foreseeable future. This makes it a great option for a new career path, especially if you are looking to try something new that you wouldn’t have thought to try sooner.
